Onel Hernandez, a winger for Norwich, returned to play following an injury layoff, participating in Cuba’s victory over St Kitts & Nevis in a Concacaf Nations League ‘play-in’ elimination round. The 31-year-old had been absent from the Canaries’ last nine matches due to a hamstring injury. However, he completed 90 minutes in Cuba’s 2-1 defeat during the first leg last Thursday. Subsequently, he netted his fourth international goal during a 67-minute performance as Cuba secured a 4-0 win in the return leg early on Tuesday. Given that Norwich manager Johannes Hoff Thorup is contending with numerous injuries, notably striker Josh Sargent’s absence until after Christmas, Hernandez might be deployed in an attacking role when the Canaries resume Championship play against West Bromwich Albion this Saturday. In August, Hernandez previously scored two goals while playing as a striker in a Carabao Cup victory against Stevenage. This season, Hernandez has accumulated only 52 minutes in the Championship, appearing in five matches as a substitute, with his most recent outing being against Watford on 21 September. Since that date, City has won only two of nine games, causing them to drop to 14th place in the table, three points above the relegation zone.
