Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom has stated his belief in his ability to adapt the current squad to improve their standing in the Championship. Heckingbottom assumed control of the team on 20 August, just 10 days before the summer transfer window concluded, having inherited the majority of the players following the dismissal of former manager Ryan Lowe. The sole player acquired during Heckingbottom’s tenure is winger Josh Bowler, who joined on loan from Nottingham Forest on deadline day. While expressing uncertainty regarding the club’s potential transfer activities, which he stated are dependent on the team’s performance throughout December, Heckingbottom also acknowledged that bringing in new players could potentially strengthen the squad currently at his disposal. He told BBC Radio Lancashire, “These are players that I know, I’ve worked with a couple of them. I’ve got to know them, I like how they train and how they’ve responded.” He continued, “But as always you want to help them. And bringing in new players sometimes helps the ones who are already here. If we can do that, that would be great.”
