The Kilauea volcano, situated on Hawaii’s Big Island, commenced an eruption of new lava approximately at 02:00 local time (12:00 GMT), as reported by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. Authorities have stated that residents face no immediate peril, given that the volcanic activity remains contained within a specific zone of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. They cautioned that the primary immediate hazard is volcanic smog, which has the potential to affect populated regions situated downwind.
