Non-league club Hashtag United has initiated an investigation following complaints about allegedly homophobic remarks made by one of its supporters during an away match against Dulwich Hamlet. Hashtag United had been promoted from the Isthmian League North Division in 2023. Hashtag, founded in 2016 by Youtuber Spencer Owen, secured a 5-4 victory on penalties in the FA Trophy first round tie, following a 1-1 draw in regular play. According to a club statement, an inquiry has commenced after the individual allegedly involved was identified. The club has also sought reports concerning the incident from Dulwich officials. The statement further indicated, “We will investigate further when we have received said reports as well as eye-witness accounts from in and around the area of the alleged offence.” It added, “We would like to use this as an opportunity to remind fans and supporters that we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to this type of behaviour.” Hashtag, currently competing in the Isthmian League Premier Division, is scheduled to play Brackley Town of National League North at home in the second round. Dulwich has stated its commitment to providing “any assistance they need” to Hashtag to facilitate the completion of their investigation. The club further commented, “We have worked hard to ensure Champion Hill is a place where everyone can feel safe and have the confidence to report any behaviour knowing that it will be acted on swiftly.” The match against Dulwich marked Hashtag’s inaugural appearance in the main draw of the FA Trophy, with their prior best performance being an appearance in the third qualifying round.
