Hartlepool United has appointed Lennie Lawrence, 76, as manager until the conclusion of the season. Lawrence had previously been the club’s caretaker boss, and his first managerial appointment was at Charlton in 1982. The experienced coach has managed over 1,000 matches, but he has not held a manager position since his dismissal from Cardiff City in 2005. He transitioned from assistant manager to a caretaker basis last month at the National League club, following the sacking of Darren Sarll after their FA Cup fourth qualifying round defeat by Brackley. Lawrence, whose first managerial appointment came at Charlton Athletic in 1982, recorded one win and two draws across his three matches while in temporary command. He will now collaborate with Anthony Limbrick, the former Woking boss who has joined as head coach, and Gavin Skelton, who has been appointed first-team coach. “It’s been a very thorough and professional process that the board has conducted, and it’s a decision we’re very excited about,” Lawrence communicated to the club’s website. He further stated, “A lot went into it and one of the priorities was a long-term plan, and the idea is to offer my experience where possible to develop the rest of the team.” Hartlepool currently sits 15th in the National League standings and is scheduled to play league leaders York City away on Saturday.
