Despite the floodlights eventually being restored, other sections of Fratton Park continued to experience power problems, leading to the postponement of the Championship match between Millwall and Portsmouth. Millwall manager Neil Harris stated his understanding of the widespread frustration caused by the power failure at Fratton Park. Millwall is currently enjoying an eight-game unbeaten streak, but Harris acknowledged that the situation was beyond anyone’s control. Speaking to BBC London, Harris remarked, “2,000 Millwall fans have travelled down here and they were hugely respectful and it’s frustrating for everyone,”. He further added, “I hope everyone can understand health and safety comes first but you can’t control the weather and you can’t control power grids so we just have to accept it and move on.” Harris also expressed concern for supporters, stating, “I hope fans can use their tickets at the rearranged game but they don’t get a refund on their travel so I feel for them and hope everyone gets home safely.” Regarding the handling of the situation, Harris commented, “Portsmouth were very good, as was the match official Dean Whitestone and we had as much information as possible until the security and police have to take the matter out of everyone’s hands and make the decision that’s in the best interests of the fans.” Millwall’s next scheduled fixture is an away match against Oxford United in the Championship on Saturday, while Pompey is set to travel to Swansea.
