Harborough District Council has unveiled a £1 million improvement initiative for Lutterworth, a town in Leicestershire. The allocated funds are designated for resurfacing the market area, installing new benches, and enhancing facilities for market traders. The design phase remains subject to consultation with key stakeholders, and the project is anticipated to conclude by autumn 2025. Currently, the market area features 12 spaces, including two designated for disabled access; the plan ensures these numbers will not decrease, as replacements will be provided elsewhere. Additionally, proposals are being developed to host extra events and specialized markets following the completion of the work, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Financial support for this initiative, which aims to “transform” the market area, will be sourced from the district council, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership. A spokesperson for the council stated: “The project aims to ensure that there will be no reduction in the number of parking spaces in this area of town. However, the draft plan is still subject to necessary regulatory approvals.” Lutterworth Town Council has been approached for a statement regarding these plans.
