Hotel chain Hand Picked Hotels has announced that a portion of its staff has “entered a redundancy process”. The company stated that less than 8% of its total workforce in Guernsey would be affected; however, its complete staff count is not publicly known. A statement from the group, which manages hotels across the Channel Islands, attributed the situation to lower than anticipated demand and the expense and difficulty of reaching the island. A spokesperson conveyed their hope that the “costs and ability of people to visit Guernsey will improve”. “Unfortunately, the low demand and the inability of guests to get to Guernsey has meant that, sadly, a number of our colleagues have entered a redundancy process,” the company said. It added, “The people whose roles have been affected have been notified and our priority is supporting them and the wider team during this period.” Hand Picked Hotels operates both the Fermain Valley and St Pierre Park hotels in Guernsey. The spokesperson indicated that the redundancies were solely impacting Fermain Valley staff, who had been offered alternative positions at the group’s other hotels. They also confirmed that no redundancies would occur for staff at its Jersey locations.
