When a pub suddenly lost electricity at the same moment a Marvel supervillain concluded his meal, staff members began to inquire about the circumstances. Actor Tom Hiddleston, renowned for his portrayal of the comic book antagonist Loki, was dining with his family and friends at the Pub with No Name in Hampshire when the power failed on Saturday, amidst Storm Darragh. Laura Walsha, a kitchen porter at the establishment in Priors Dean near Petersfield, mentioned she playfully suggested to the star, telling “him that he caused the chaos”. She laughed as she recounted Hiddleston “utterly denied it of course, but I wasn’t convinced”. Ms. Walsha stated: “Obviously it put an end to our normal service because we couldn’t keep the kitchen running but Tom managed to finish his dinner.” She added that the pub’s staff lit candles and kept a fire burning, enabling patrons to continue enjoying their drinks before heading home. Dan Burrell, the head chef at the location, observed that people were appreciating the candlelit ambiance at the pub, but he conceded that the power outage has significantly impacted the restaurant. “We had to get rid of all of our stock, that was fresh, which is a nightmare for us as a business,” he explained. He characterized the situation as “horrendous,” as they were also compelled to discard food prepared for upcoming Christmas functions, including a substantial amount of turkey and fish. “It’s tough, so to lose all of that is going to have a huge impact on us,” Mr. Burrell commented. The venue remained closed on Sunday, but the pub’s power supply has since been restored to normal. You can follow BBC Hampshire & Isle of Wight on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
