An individual with a history of offenses has been imprisoned after being discovered with a knife in Swindon. Wiltshire Police officers apprehended two men on Edgeware Road on Thursday, following observations by Swindon Borough Council CCTV operators who noted their “suspicious” behavior. After the pair were initially detained for a drug search, cannabis and a substantial kitchen knife were found on one of the men, identified as Keiran Evers, 28, who has no fixed abode. Evers subsequently appeared before Swindon Magistrates Court on Friday, where he received a nine-month prison sentence. Prior to his sentencing, Evers had faced arrest and charges for possession of a bladed article in a public place and for the possession of a Class B drug, specifically herbal cannabis. The officers involved in his apprehension were conducting an Operation Dasher patrol, an initiative designed to ensure the safety of individuals and commercial establishments during the festive season. PC Paul Bezzant commented: “Evers is a repeat offender for carrying weapons and I’m pleased he will now spend time behind bars for it.” He added: “There can be no place in society for carrying knives and other bladed articles – the consequences of doing so, as we have sadly seen, can be lifelong.”
