An individual has admitted guilt in connection with a deadly XL bully attack. Ian Langley, aged 54, sustained an attack on 3 October last year while walking his puppy in Shiney Row, a location close to Sunderland. Christopher Bell, 45, whose previous address was Maple Terrace, Shiney Row, made an appearance before Newcastle Crown Court. He entered a guilty plea to the charge of being the owner of a dog that inflicted injuries resulting in death, having been dangerously out of control in a public area. Bell, who currently resides in Hull, received bail and is scheduled for sentencing on 27 January. The legal charge identified his dog as Titan, described as “an American bully XL”. Northumbria Police stated that officers euthanized the animal at the site of the incident to ensure public safety. According to neighbours, Mr. Langley, originally from Liverpool, was walking his Patterdale puppy named Bow at the time of the attack. He succumbed to neck injuries in the hospital. Legislation enacted in February prohibited individuals from possessing XL bully breeds without an exemption certificate. Detective Chief Inspector Jason Henry commented that Mr. Langley’s family demonstrated “significant strength” throughout the investigation. He added, “This case highlights the very tragic consequences of what can happen when people fail to control dogs within their care.” Additional reporting by PA Media.
