Guernsey Police has issued a warning to island residents following flooding across the island. The force stated that due to adverse weather conditions, motorists were advised to “drive with caution as many roads are flooded with standing water and fallen debris”. It also reported that South Esplanade was blocked by water, resulting in the road’s closure to both pedestrians and all traffic. Guernsey Airport announced that airlines had “suspended operations” on Thursday morning, attributing this to strong winds and heavy sleet, which subsequently caused delays. Around 14:15 GMT, the airport communicated via social media that operations had resumed, citing an “improvement in the weather conditions.” It issued the following statement: “For anyone scheduled to travel today, please note that there will be knock-on delays to flights due to the severe weather experienced today.” The airport also advised: “Please check in as normal, monitor the latest flight information for updates and contact your airline directly if you have any specific queries regarding your travel.” Kieran Higgs, the duty harbourmaster for Guernsey Harbours, noted that the weather conditions had been “even more disruptive as they were coupled with morning high tide.” He also issued a reminder to boat owners to ensure their vessels were “properly secured, particularly ahead of severe weather conditions.” Jersey Met reported that the weather in Guernsey was “cloudy with rain or sleet.” The forecast indicated that it would later clear to “scattered showers, perhaps heavy with hail.”
