Residents of Guernsey are responding to Jersey’s decision to appoint DFDS for its ferry services. Jersey selected the Danish company DFDS to manage its crucial passenger and freight transportation. This development follows Guernsey’s own choice in October to partner with Brittany Ferries for its maritime connections. Filip Hermann of DFDS conveyed that the company was “thrilled” to have secured the Jersey contract. Regarding Jersey’s adopted decision, Deputy Neil Inder, who chairs the Committee for Economic Development, stated: “I have consistently said that a pan-island service would be preferable but that we would respect Jersey’s decision no matter which way it went. “That is still the case. “From our perspective we are very happy to be working with Brittany Ferries and will of course work with Jersey to ensure inter-island route opportunities are fully explored.” Gemma Domaille, a Guernsey resident, commented: “I think it’s going to cause some complications. “I know a lot of people aren’t happy about the timetable between here and Jersey.”It’s going to make things a little bit more competitive and maybe the prices will be a bit different, but I think Guernsey will probably lose out more than anyone else.”
