Guernsey’s latest unemployment data, released by the States, indicates a rise of almost 30% in individuals working part-time or casual hours since the previous quarter. The count of people in part-time or casual roles specifically climbed from 54 in August to 69 in September, with 74% (51) of these individuals being female. Concurrently, the number of reported jobseekers decreased by 50 people, from 291 in September 2023 to 241 by September 2024. The States government has been approached for a statement regarding these statistics. Furthermore, the data revealed an increase in job advertisements over the past year; the job centre published 308 adverts on its website in September, an increase from 297 last year. In addition, 32 individuals have been placed on training schemes, including Work for Benefit, Kickstart, and other third sector placements. The figures also show a reduction in unemployment claims on the island, with September recording nearly half the number of claims seen in August.
