Residents of Guernsey assembled at St Peter Port’s Weighbridge to observe a minute of silence, honoring those who have died or been injured in road traffic incidents. This event occurred on Sunday, coinciding with the United Nations-recognised World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The charity Living Streets organized this gathering, which saw individuals convene at the newly established memorial at 11:30 GMT. This commemoration was part of a series of activities jointly coordinated by the Guernsey Bicycle Group (GBG) as part of Road Safety Week. The GBG is scheduled to host a night ride on Tuesday, featuring the slogan “Be Bright, Be Seen,” aimed at enhancing awareness regarding the crucial role of visibility for cyclists. Additionally, local cycle shops were providing discounts to support national charity Brake’s Road Safety Week, according to organizers. The GBG stated: “In Guernsey, every road user — whether on foot, bike, or behind the wheel — has the right to travel safely.” The group urged islanders to “remember the Guernsey community spirit on the road, because every journey matters, and every life counts”.
