A hotel located in Guernsey is slated for sale, marking its first change of ownership in four decades, as its current proprietors are stepping down. La Barbarie Hotel, situated in St Martins, is currently under the ownership of business partners Andrew Wright and Andy Coleman. Mr. Wright acquired the hotel property in 1986, subsequently collaborating with Mr. Coleman to transform the establishment’s two-star self-catering accommodations into a four-star hotel. According to Mr. Wright, the process of transforming the business represented “a hugely satisfying endeavour,” and both partners are “immensely proud” of their accomplishments. He further stated, “We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our outstanding staff for their remarkable hard work and dedication over the years, without them the hotel would not have achieved its success.” The structure, which originally functioned as a small monastery, underwent conversion into a hotel in 1950. Mr. Coleman became part of the hotel’s team in 1991, and together, he and Mr. Wright dedicated efforts to invest in and renovate the property. Their renovation efforts, encompassing the addition of more air-conditioned en-suite bedrooms and enhancements to the foyer and restaurant, resulted in the business being awarded two four-star ratings by AA and Visit Guernsey in 2019.
