Communication tools designed to assist individuals with visual impairments in navigating government-operated locations are currently being trialled in Guernsey. The technology, named NaviLens, operates by placing distinct codes at key points within a building. These codes can then be scanned using a mobile phone to provide information on how to navigate the site. The States of Guernsey has organized this initiative, leading to the installation of these codes across various government-owned and government-funded facilities. These locations include Beau Sejour, the Guilles-Alles Library, and Guernsey Airport. Gill Evans, the States disability officer, underscored the importance of ensuring that all “people are treated with dignity and understanding”. She stated: “There are many islanders who can experience communication difficulties, whether that’s difficulties in speaking, hearing or understanding. By using these communication aids our teams will be able to better serve our community.”
