Firefighters in Guernsey are set to collect used Christmas trees this year as part of a fundraising effort for charity. The Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) announced that its volunteers would undertake the tree collections during their off-duty hours, utilizing their personal time and vehicles. The service confirmed that all proceeds generated would be directed to charity, with collections scheduled to commence shortly after Christmas. Firefighter Charlie Roger specified that only real trees would be accepted for collection, excluding those treated with fake snow or similar substances. Mr. Roger stated: “This year we’re once again looking to collect Christmas trees from around the island to raise money for the Firefighters Charity.” He added, “It’s a cause that is clearly very close to the hearts of all of us at the GFRS, and we wanted to do something to raise support for them, while also giving back to the community. All of the collections will be done in our free time, and we’d be grateful for any donations people are willing to give.” Islanders wishing to arrange a collection were instructed to contact the volunteers via email or text message, providing their address and preferred collection day closer to the scheduled time.
