Guernsey Energy has announced that gas prices on the island are set to increase by 10% starting January 1st. The island’s exclusive gas provider stated that this adjustment will result in an approximate monthly increase of £9.37 for the typical household. Guernsey Energy attributed the price hike to “geopolitical events across Europe,” which have consistently affected wholesale gas prices throughout the last year. Darryl Goddard, the Managing Director, commented: “We understand that tariff increases can be difficult for our customers to manage, but given these circumstances they unfortunately cannot be avoided.” Mr Goddard further explained: “Energy markets are subject to a variety of complex influences which impact our supply chain and keep the cost of services that are crucial to the supply of gas high.” He also stated: “We’re continuing to invest heavily across our network and drive forward a comprehensive maintenance programme.” Mr Goddard mentioned that the company provides a Priority Customer Care scheme, designed to assist vulnerable customers, and also conducts reviews to help customers identify energy-saving opportunities and offers guidance on utilizing smart technology for consumption management. Guernsey Energy indicated that a complete list of the updated tariffs will be accessible on its official website starting January 1st.
