The States of Guernsey has stated it is unaware of the precise period during which it mistakenly supplied complimentary flu vaccines to Sark. Health and Social Care (HSC) disclosed earlier this month that it had furnished the island with free flu vaccinations, attributing this to an “internal miscommunication”. The BBC has learned that this situation persisted for “years”; however, due to staff turnover, Sark could not confirm the exact duration. A spokesperson for the States of Guernsey affirmed that it was “unclear” for how many years the issue had “been present for”. The States reported that it “became aware of the matter at the start of 2024 and took immediate action to re-establish the charging arrangements”. It was communicated that “Sark’s Medical and Emergency Services Committee was informed of the error in March 2024 and advised that the charges would be reintroduced for adult vaccinations from 1 April 2024.” Sark Medical Practice doubled its prices for adult flu jabs earlier this month, citing increased costs.
