Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day following today’s defeat, commented: “We knew we couldn’t match the intensity. We have talked about it. It was an open game. We had chances at the end but I congratulate Bournemouth for the victory.” Guardiola further explained that Bournemouth’s playing style involved significant aggression, particularly in 50-50 challenges and duels in the midfield. He noted their physicality and speed, suggesting their six to seven days of preparation contributed to these attributes. The manager acknowledged that his team struggled to prevail in these situations, mentioning a good save by Ederson. He also highlighted that despite City having strong periods at the start of the second half, the subsequent difficulty was “difficult to swallow as we were good.” Guardiola added that after scoring, the team gained momentum and created opportunities but could not score again. Regarding injuries and fitness issues within the squad, Guardiola stated: “It is what it is. We have few players with a lot of minutes and a lot of players with no minutes to the balance is a bit uncomfortable.” He contrasted their strong performance against Spurs with today’s match, concluding that they “could not handle their intensity that they had and that’s why we lost the game.”
