An individual dedicated to Halloween, who begins preparations a full year ahead, has stated his readiness for a “manic” celebration on a street that residents identify as Greater Manchester’s most frightening. Christopher Ellis reported having “already bagged up 300 bags of sweets” in preparation for the Halloween festivities scheduled for Thursday evening in Wythenshawe’s Newall Green area. He is among several families residing on Foxfield Road who exert considerable effort to decorate their residences with an elaborate arrangement of witches, pumpkins, spiders, and skeletons, aiming to create a spooky atmosphere for their neighbors. He explained his purchasing strategy, stating, “Everything is half price on the internet after October, so that’s when I buy them.” Hannah, a resident of one of the decorated houses, mentioned that installing her decorations spans several weeks. She informed BBC Radio Manchester, “We just do it over time, putting one decoration up at a time. It’ll take longer to take them all down.” She characterized Halloween as “brilliant” for her three children: Maisie, aged eight; Mylie, seven; and Marnie, three. She elaborated, “They come out in groups and they all know each other. They all dress up and the parents get involved. It’s like one big party.” Matthew, aged 11, and Sophie, eight, who also reside on the street, contributed to decorating their family’s residence. Sophie stated her intention to dress as Wednesday Addams from the Addams Family for this year’s Halloween event. She remarked, “My costume is black and white. Last year I got a lot of sweets.” Matthew announced his plan to portray a plague doctor and identified his preferred Halloween confection as “the chewy drumstick bars with sherbet in the middle.” Mr. Ellis further commented, “The decorations take me about three weeks to put up.” He continued, “I’ve done it for the last five years and I do a different theme every year. It’s going to be absolutely manic this year.”
