Italy has been designated as the host nation for the eight-team finals. Jack Draper, the British men’s number one, is anticipated to captain Leon Smith’s team. The 11th-seeded British squad will compete against Japan in this men’s team competition during late January or early February, approximately one week after the conclusion of the Australian Open. Should Leon Smith’s team emerge victorious, they will advance to a second qualifying round in September. This subsequent tie, which will be either home or away, follows recent structural changes to the 124-year-old tournament. The victor of the Great Britain versus Japan encounter will proceed to face either Germany, the fourth seeds who reached this year’s semi-finals, or Israel. Great Britain’s ultimate objective is to secure a spot in the eight-team finals scheduled for November, which the International Tennis Federation has opted to relocate to Italy. Bologna, Italy, will serve as the host city for the 2025 edition, taking over from the Spanish city of Malaga, which hosted the event in November of this year. Italy, spearheaded by men’s world number one Jannik Sinner, successfully defended their Davis Cup title last month. Furthermore, the nation also triumphed in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, the women’s team event, held earlier that same week in Malaga. Alex Hughes, the International Tennis Federation’s executive director for major events, stated, “We had some incredible interest from four different regions across the world, showing the appetite and interest in the competition.” Hughes added, “Italy are the world champions, having won in 2023 and retained the title this year, and are also the winners of the BJK Cup women’s team event.” He concluded, “I can’t think of a more fitting place to take the Davis Cup Final Eight.”
