Great Britain’s women commenced their 2026 Winter Olympic qualifying campaign with a 3-2 victory against Latvia in Sheffield. This win follows a record of two victories in their previous three meetings with Latvia. Goals for Great Britain were scored by Jodie Alderson Smith, Katie Henry, and Katherine Gale, which countered the efforts from Liga Miljone and Krista Yip-Chuck for Latvia. The Great Britain women’s team is aiming to qualify for the Winter Games for the first time. The 2026 edition of the Winter Games is set to be hosted in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. Captain Smith opened the scoring, but Miljone quickly responded to level the score for the visitors. Henry then restored GB’s advantage, and Gale, celebrating her 50th cap, further extended their lead to ensure that Yip-Chuck’s strike would not prove costly. The GB women’s team will return to action for their second qualifier against Spain on Saturday (16:00 GMT), before concluding this international window on Sunday against the Netherlands (16:00).
