A soldier’s war medals have been returned to his family over 50 years after they were taken during a burglary. The Accrington veteran’s granddaughter recognized the medals, which bore his name and private number, being offered for sale at an auction in London. She subsequently contacted the auctioneer, who advised her to reach out to Lancashire Police. According to a police spokesman, the grandfather had passed away in 1970, “not long after they were stolen”.
