Graham Coughlan, the former manager of Newport County, has returned to a managerial role five months after his departure from Rodney Parade. The 50-year-old has assumed the position of manager for National League club Boston. The Northern Irish manager departed Newport in June. At that time, County chairman Huw Jenkins stated that the club aimed to pursue a “different direction.” Subsequently, Jenkins appointed Nelson Jardim as the new head coach. Coughlan had previously taken over from James Rowberry at County in October 2022. He was credited with guiding the club away from a relegation struggle following a challenging start to that season. The 2023-24 campaign began impressively under his leadership, featuring an FA Cup run that culminated in a financially beneficial fourth-round match against eventual tournament winners Manchester United. Nevertheless, a decline in performance towards the end of the season resulted in eight consecutive losses. Coughlan’s tenure concluded after 20 months, with Newport finishing 18th in League Two. The former Bristol Rovers manager takes over from Ian Culverhouse at Boston. The Pilgrims, who achieved promotion last season, are currently positioned second from the bottom in the National League standings.
