A proposal has been lodged for the construction of a government-funded community hub, designed to centralize various support services. The City of Doncaster Council stated that this development is slated for the Miners Welfare grounds, located at Hatfield Working Men’s Club in Stainforth, Doncaster. Should the plans receive approval, the facility would host services including alcohol and addiction support, childcare and family programmes, debt counselling, and health advice. Council officers have indicated that the current children’s play area and sports facilities on the grounds are not expected to be impacted by these proposals. This initiative follows the allocation of £21.6 million to the authority from the government’s Towns Deal fund, designated for improvements in Stainforth. The Local Democracy Service reported that the council’s submitted plans for the new hub encompass community spaces, a reception area, a kitchen, and an outdoor landscaped area. Furthermore, existing car parking spaces are intended for use, supplemented by new disabled parking provisions, cycle storage, and an electric vehicle charging point. The council described the proposed hub as “an exciting opportunity” to consolidate various services, presently dispersed across multiple locations in the area, into a single facility. A statement issued by Doncaster Council asserted that the plans are expected to generate a “lasting impact” on the community and tackle issues associated with unemployment and crime. It added: “The hub will help to improve the connection between Stainforth and its residents, evoking a greater sense of pride and purpose – providing a space where people can flourish and that can provide the support that its residents need.” Multiple planning departments are scheduled for consultation regarding the proposal before a final decision is rendered. Additional projects slated to utilize the Towns Fund encompass the transformation of the station gateway, enhancements to the town centre, and the redevelopment of Hatfield Colliery.
