West Ham midfielder Katrina Gorry, who has represented Australia in 107 matches, and Everton’s Clare Wheeler have both withdrawn from the national squad due to injuries. West Ham confirmed that Gorry sustained a shoulder injury during the club’s 3-2 defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion. During that match, she also scored her first goals for the team. Everton midfielder Wheeler suffered a “minor” lower leg injury during her side’s 1-0 victory against Liverpool. This injury subsequently kept her out of their 2-0 League Cup defeat by Manchester United on Wednesday. Gorry and Wheeler join San Diego Wave defender Kaitlyn Torpey, who also withdrew from the squad after sustaining a hamstring injury. Australia’s interim head coach, Tom Sermanni, had previously named an extended 36-player squad for upcoming friendly double-headers against Brazil and Chinese Taipei. The Matildas are scheduled to face Brazil on 28 November and 1 December, before hosting Chinese Taipei on 4 December and 7 December.
