Police in a northern Spanish town report that a Google Street View image, depicting a man placing a large white plastic bag into the boot of his vehicle, has contributed to the resolution of a murder investigation. The Google application, which provides users with street-level imagery captured by camera-equipped cars globally, reportedly documented the precise instant the victim’s body was allegedly being transported. Last month, two individuals were apprehended and charged in connection with the disappearance and murder of a man that occurred in October of the previous year. His dismembered remains were discovered in a cemetery last week. This incident marked the Google car’s initial visit to Tajueco, located in the northern province of Soria, in 15 years. According to officials, an additional series of photographs depicts a blurred outline of an individual moving a substantial white package in a wheelbarrow. Nevertheless, law enforcement officials stated that these images were not “decisive” in resolving the investigation. The male victim, identified by El Pais newspaper as a 33-year-old Cuban national, was reported missing in October 2023. This report followed a relative’s receipt of text messages from the victim’s phone, which the relative deemed suspicious. The relative informed police that these messages indicated the victim had encountered a woman, was departing Spain, and intended to dispose of his phone. On 12 November of the current year, authorities apprehended a woman identified as the missing man’s partner and a man identified as her ex-partner. Earlier in the current month, a severely decomposed torso, believed to be that of the victim, was exhumed from a nearby cemetery. The individuals accused have been placed in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing.
