Spinner Tom Smith is set to participate exclusively in T20 cricket during the 2025 season, while also maintaining his coaching role at Gloucestershire. The Gloucestershire spin-bowler, Tom Smith, has formalized a one-year T20-only contract extension with the club, committing him through the conclusion of the 2025 season. Smith, aged 37, will cease playing List A cricket but will continue as a member of the coaching staff for the upcoming season, marking his thirteenth year with the club. Smith holds the distinction of being Gloucestershire’s second-highest all-time T20 wicket-taker, having exceeded 150 wickets last season. He was a member of the team that secured the Vitality Blast title for the first time this September; however, an injury restricted him to just six appearances throughout the campaign. “Next season, my contract will see me retire from List A cricket and focus solely on T20 cricket as a player,” Smith said. “This will also allow me to continue my coaching development during the Metro Bank [One-Day Cup] block, providing a great opportunity for further growth in that area.” “Securing the Vitality Blast title was an unforgettable achievement and the chance to defend it next season is an exciting prospect that I’m eager to be involved in.” Head coach Mark Alleyne stated that Smith would serve as an additional “resource” for the team in a coaching capacity, aiding their continued progress. “His qualities in some key moments for us are undeniable and it’s great he is happy to go again for another season,” Alleyne said. “Tom’s impact on the coaching front is progressing nicely.” Post navigation Kaminski Shares Insights on Crystal Palace’s Challenge Against Manchester City, Team Fitness, and Club Support Potential Impact of Old Firm Player Rotation on Upcoming Matches
