The Gloucestershire Academy of Music (GAM), a charity dedicated to music education, has acquired its premises following a three-year fundraising initiative. GAM, which had rented Barbican House in Gloucester for a decade, has now purchased the property from Gloucester Council. For more than four decades, GAM has offered lessons, group sessions, courses, and masterclasses to individuals of all ages. Richie Ashton-Phillips, GAM’s executive director, stated: “This is a pivotal moment not only for our wonderful charity, but also for music and arts education in Gloucestershire.” Three years prior, GAM initiated a campaign to raise £500,000 for the purchase of its premises, ultimately securing over £400,000. Each week, the academy delivers music, arts, and drama education to more than 600 participants, ranging in age from 3 to 83. GAM intends to modify the space to accommodate a greater number of users, specifically by enhancing accessibility for disabled individuals. Further plans include the construction of an atrium, the establishment of a new entrance hall, and the re-configuration of existing rooms to provide improved rehearsal areas. Mr. Ashton-Phillips commented: “We can’t express how grateful we are to the city council for their support and also for the generosity of everyone who donated towards our three-year fundraising appeal.” Councillor Jeremy Hilton stated: “We’re delighted to help secure a future for the Gloucestershire Academy of Music, ensuring that it can continue the valuable work it does for our community—and hopefully thrive for another 40 years and beyond.” Councillor Caroline Courtney, cabinet member for culture and leisure, remarked: “Music and culture play a pivotal role in the life of any vibrant city, and not only enrich our daily lives but also contribute significantly to the economy.” Post navigation Stoke-on-Trent Libraries Seek Volunteers to Expand Services and Hours Expansion of “Life-Changing” Breakfast Program Considered
