Official data indicates that Gloucester City Council collected £111,800 from parking penalties issued in its city-owned car parks last year. Over 4,800 fines were distributed to motorists, even though the total number of parking tickets issued saw a reduction of nearly 2,000 compared to 2022. The daily average of fines issued in 2023 was 13, a decrease from 18 per day in 2022. This reduction in penalties has resulted in lower revenue for the council from parking enforcement activities. Gloucester City Council chose not to provide a statement regarding these figures. Sam Sheehan, the motoring editor at cinch, the company responsible for analyzing the data, commented that these statistics serve as a “reminder” for all motorists to verify nearby signage before parking. He stated, “Nobody wants to find a parking fine come through their letterbox. Also, if you think the fine is unfair or it’s incorrect, don’t forget you have 28 days to appeal to an independent tribunal. And, if it is correct, you might be able to reduce the fine by paying sooner rather than later.” Gloucester City Council manages 14 car parks throughout the city, which collectively offer approximately 1,905 parking spaces.
