Glenn Irwin, known for his 11 victories at the North West 200, has announced his departure from road racing. The 34-year-old Irwin stated that this choice is driven by his ambition to secure the British Superbike Championship title. The rider from Northern Ireland has achieved second and third place finishes in the BSB standings over the last two seasons. Competing with PBM Ducati, he narrowly missed the championship to Tommy Bridewell in 2023 by a mere 0.5 points, and this season he secured third place, trailing champion Kyle Ryde and Bridewell. On his social media platform, Irwin commented, “I believe this news will help shape my career in search of my first British Superbike title.” He added, “Thirty-four may seem young but I achieved so much more than what I ever dreamed off.” Irwin first competed at the North West 200 in 2015 and has since established himself as the most accomplished rider in the Superbike category throughout the event’s history. During the 2024 event, he secured a hat-trick of wins, extending his consecutive victories in the Superbike class to 11. His only participation at the Isle of Man TT occurred in 2022, where he was recognized as the fastest newcomer. Earlier in his career, he also competed at the Ulster Grand Prix.
