Kyle Steyn, described as an “Exceptional leader,” has committed his future to Glasgow Warriors by signing a new contract that will keep him with the team through 2028. The Scotland international winger has accumulated 28 tries across 79 appearances for Glasgow since his arrival in February 2019. Steyn, who assumed the captaincy prior to the 2022-23 season, guided the Scotstoun-based club to its inaugural European final, where they were defeated by Toulon in the 2023 Challenge Cup showpiece. Subsequently, the team secured the URC title in the most recent season. According to head coach Franco Smith, Steyn possesses the potential to be “truly world class” for both his club and his national team. Smith further stated: “We’re proud to retain a player of Kyle’s calibre and character. He is an exceptional leader who leads by example above all else, and is a huge asset to the club.” Steyn, who has scored 13 tries in 23 international Test matches, expressed that leading the Warriors onto the field is “one of the biggest honours of his life.” The 30-year-old player commented: “I’ve loved my time here so far, every minute of it.” He continued: “My wife and daughter are really settled here, we’ve got a great set of friends in the city and the group of boys here make it a privilege to come to work every day.” Steyn added: “Everyone here recognises the quality of group we have, both here and with Scotland. I just want to be a part of that, contribute in every way I can, and take us as far forward as possible.”
