The cast of the show Gavin & Stacey gathered for their final reunion at the premiere event for its concluding episode. Among those present on the red carpet for a special screening of the Christmas Day program were actors James Corden, Ruth Jones, Joanna Page, and Matthew Horne. This event signified the ultimate gathering for the acclaimed sitcom’s cast members, including those portraying Nessa, Smithy, Mick, Pam, Uncle Bryn, and the titular characters Gavin and Stacey. Additional actors, who played Dave Coaches and Jason West, also attended the London event to promote the feature-length concluding episode, scheduled to be broadcast on BBC One on Christmas Day. Ruth Jones, known for her role as Nessa, Stacey’s outspoken yet endearing best friend, informed BBC News on the red carpet that she endeavors to emulate her Gavin and Stacey character when experiencing nervousness. Jones stated, “What I love about Nessa is she doesn’t care what anyone thinks.” She added, “I wish I could be a bit more like that in real life. I just love her directness. If I’m feeling nervous about something, I often channel my inner Nessa to be able to say ‘Oh, love, back off’.” She further commented, “I just love playing her, I really do. I love the history of her life and the things that she’s done, which are quite phenomenal.” The series Gavin & Stacey first aired in 2007 on BBC Three, and Jones, who co-created the show with Corden, has portrayed Nessa Jenkins continuously since its inception. Nessa, recognized for her catchphrases “Oh!”, “What’s occurring?’ and “Tidy”, has held various jobs, such as a truck driver, a BBC producer, and a goalkeeping coach at Coventry City. Matthew Horne and Joanna Page embody the titular characters of Gavin & Stacey, and Page has confessed to feeling apprehensive about reprising her iconic role for the concluding episode. She informed the BBC, “It was quite daunting in the beginning.” Page elaborated, “I said to my mum before we started, ‘oh my gosh, I first played Stacey when I was 29 – I’m now in my forties, I’ve got four children, am I going to be able to play this bubbly, energetic and fun sort of character again?'” Page continued, “I’m still exactly the same as I was when I was like, 17, so yeah. There was a slight thing of ‘oh my God, am I going to play her differently?’ but then, my God, meeting up with the gang, getting back on set, having a laugh, and just slotting back into where we all are in the family – it was just wonderful.” The forthcoming finale will feature Gavin, Stacey, Smithy, and Nessa reuniting for a last occasion, following the conclusion of the 2019 Christmas special where Jones’ character Nessa proposed to Smithy, portrayed by Corden. Corden remarked, “It may sound like complete nonsense, but it doesn’t really feel like we’re in charge of writing it.” He added, “I feel like we just have to be together and we sort of open a portal and the characters arrive and they tell us what they want everybody to know.” The initial official image from the final episode of Gavin & Stacey was released earlier this month, with a trailer subsequently following. Production for the forthcoming special occurred in Barry and south Wales over several weeks during the autumn, with Corden, Jones, and other cast members seen filming on the Barry Island seafront. The concluding episode of Gavin and Stacey is scheduled to be broadcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC One at 21:00 GMT on 25 December. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
