An actor from the popular television series Gavin & Stacey has hinted to viewers that the concluding episode will reveal whether the long-standing mystery surrounding the show’s frequently mentioned fishing trip will be resolved. Robert Wilfort, known for his role as Jason West in the comedy program, shared these comments with BBC Three Counties Radio during a fishing excursion in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, his hometown. He stated, “I’m under strict instructions not to reveal any details, we want no spoilers, so you’ll just have to watch on Christmas Day.” Wilfort added, “I’m fully prepared for it to go on my gravestone: ‘What happened on the fishing trip?'” The series features a recurring comedic element centered on a troubling event that occurred during a fishing trip involving Jason and his uncle Bryn, portrayed by Rob Brydon. “People go mad trying to figure out what happened… it’s really lovely to be in this thing that has captured people’s imaginations,” Wilfort commented. The actor relocated to Chesham with his family a decade and a half ago; he originally hails from Porthcawl in Wales, a location he described as “about half-hour down the road from Barry,” the setting of the show. Prior to the broadcast of the concluding episode on Christmas Day, he has been re-viewing the series alongside his daughter, who is experiencing it for the first time. Gavin & Stacey initially aired between 2007 and 2010, followed by a Christmas special in 2019. Wilfort shared, “We finally thought she was old enough to watch it… We’re nearly at the end of series three and she’s loving it. She’s sitting there going, ‘Oh, Dad’.” Production for Gavin & Stacey: The Finale commenced in September and concluded on 7 October. Wilfort mentioned that the cast experienced strong emotions during the final moments of filming. He recounted, “There were lots of tears on set… Ruth (Jones) and James (Corden) were very specific so that the last episode would have as many of the cast as possible.” When questioned about potential plans for a Gavin & Stacey film, the actor stated he had no knowledge of such projects but expressed his readiness to participate. He affirmed, “I would be part of anything that Ruth and James want to do, I’d be there at the drop of a hat.” Wilfort also remarked, “There is a danger of dragging it out, I don’t think the public feel like that that, the public love it, but I think artistically there is a point you think ‘how much longer can we keep doing this?'” The concluding episode of Gavin & Stacey is scheduled to broadcast on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on 25 December at 20:00 GMT.
