Gary Kirsten, who represented South Africa in 101 Tests and 185 one-day internationals, has stepped down from his position as Pakistan’s limited-overs coach. His tenure lasted six months. Test coach Jason Gillespie is set to assume responsibility for the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia, scheduled to commence next week. The 56-year-old former South Africa batter had been appointed to a two-year contract in April, coinciding with Gillespie’s appointment to lead the Test squad. ESPNCricinfo has reported that Kirsten experienced a strained relationship with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), stemming from disagreements regarding selection matters. Prior to last week’s third Test match between Pakistan and England, Gillespie stated that he no longer participated in selection decisions, characterizing his role as solely a “match day strategist.” The PCB restructured its selection committee following a significant defeat against England in the initial Test. Kirsten’s prior coaching experience includes leading India to victory in the 50-over World Cup in 2011, coaching his home country of South Africa, and undertaking stints with various T20 franchises, notably within the Indian Premier League. Pakistan is scheduled to compete against Australia in a series comprising three one-day internationals, commencing on 4 November in Melbourne, followed by three T20 internationals. The PCB has appointed former Australian bowler Gillespie to oversee these white-ball fixtures, a decision made after Pakistan secured a 2-1 Test series victory over England.
