Over £17,000 has been collected to assist a man who is still in critical condition following an incident where he was hit by a falling tree during Storm Darragh. The individual, identified as Dan on the online fundraising platform, became trapped on 7 December when a substantial cedar tree fell on him in Portland Place West, Leamington Spa. He was extricated and subsequently transported to a hospital, where he continues to be unconscious and reliant on life support, according to information on the GoFundMe page. A woman and a baby, identified on the page as Dan’s partner Lou and their daughter, were also caught when the tree fell but sustained only minor injuries, as reported by West Midlands Ambulance Service. The fundraising page indicates that Dan is expected to face a “very long road to recovery.” It further states, “We are all desperate for good news, but preparing for the worst.” On the page, Dan is characterized as a self-employed chairmaker and the primary provider for his family, with organizers confirming that all contributions will be directed towards assisting the family. The page emphasizes, “Any donation, no matter how small, will make a huge difference.”
