A concluding fundraising effort has commenced for a new skatepark designated for a Surrey town. This facility is intended to supersede an existing one in Cobham, which has reached the conclusion of its operational lifespan. The development of the new park is reliant on crowdfunding, with Sport England pledging to match every pound contributed, up to a maximum of £5,000. The final date for receiving donations is 26 November. Maverick Skateparks has already completed the designs for the project. Lili Love, representing the Cobham Skatepark Project, stated: “I grew up in Cobham and learnt to skate at the current park and my son is a keen skateboarder who also learnt to skate there. We were very sad to see the demise of the current park and the community that evolved there.“Desperation for the new park is palpable, people are just so excited at the prospect of having somewhere local to take their children.” Martin Elbourne, from Cobham Village Partnership Community Interest Company, commented: “This new facility will provide a very practical way of addressing and supporting many of the issues our younger generation continue to suffer post Covid, including mental and physical health and social wellbeing.” BBC Surrey can be followed on Facebook and X.
