The Manx Wildlife Trust, a nature charity located on the Isle of Man, has received a grant exceeding £2,000 from the Manx Lottery Trust. This funding is designated for the revitalization of Garey Yn Ellan Ain, a community garden in St John’s. Established as a temporary installation in 2018, this garden space is now the focus of a community-driven initiative to restore local biodiversity. Hannah Phillips, the community ranger for the charity, stated that the organization would be able to further develop the area as a “hub for both wildlife and the local community.” She noted that the space had already “brought together people of all ages.” To execute the project, Manx Wildlife Trust plans to collaborate with local community members and the prison and probation service. Ms Phillips further explained that the £2,467 in funding is “vital” for aiding in the restoration of wildflower beds and for “improve the overall garden environment at Garey Yn Ellan Ain.” Additionally, the grant will facilitate the replacement of existing signage and the animal silhouettes that depict various species native to the island. Stephen Turner, who serves as chairman of the Manx Lottery Trust, described the initiative as a “fantastic” community project that “encourages local involvement while also supporting the island’s biodiversity.”
