Brighton is scheduled to face three teams from the bottom seven – Leicester, Crystal Palace, and West Ham – in their upcoming three fixtures. Brighton missed an opportunity to climb to fourth place in the Premier League standings, returning from a rain-swept and windy Craven Cottage without points following their defeat to Fulham. Fabian Hurzeler’s squad bore responsibility for their loss, having conceded an early goal to the home side in the fourth minute and later scoring an unfortunate own goal from a set piece, after initially leveling the score at 1-1. Despite the severe weather conditions, characterized by heavy rain and strong winds, there was no justification for Bart Verbruggen’s initial misjudgment that allowed Fulham to take the lead. Just three minutes into the match, Brighton’s Dutch goalkeeper, attempting a short pass to teammate Carlos Baleba within the penalty area, saw Alex Iwobi intercept the ball and net the first of his two goals. Nevertheless, Hurzeler stated that the club’s playing approach would remain unchanged, even after suffering only their third league loss of the current season. “If a goalkeeper makes a mistake it’s immediately a goal,” said Hurzeler. “But that [playing out from the back] is the way I want to play and we will continue to play like this.” He added, “I’m completely convinced the players will develop and we will keep pushing him. He has made great matches for us, mistakes happen, that’s football and we have to accept it and keep moving on.”
