A complimentary light festival, anticipated to be the “best yet,” is scheduled to take place in Greater Manchester. Named Lightwaves Salford, the event features a series of light art installations displayed outdoors across Salford Quays and MediaCity after sunset. No advance booking is required for this event, which will run from December 5 to December 8. This year marks the 11th anniversary of Lightwaves, presenting a trail composed of 14 illuminated artworks from both established and emerging artists. These artists, originating locally, nationally, and internationally, contribute a diverse range of pieces to the exhibition. Quays Culture is the organization responsible for creating the light trail. They travel throughout the UK with their innovative and captivating light installations, which are made accessible to everyone without charge. Guided tours are offered throughout the festival, including a BSL (British Sign Language) guided tour of Lightwaves on December 7 at 19:00 GMT, and a guided bike ride on December 8 at 16:00. Kate Doyle, head of programme for Quays Culture, stated: “The programme is one of our best yet and we’re looking forward to seeing visitors’ reactions to our thought-provoking new commissions.” During the darker winter months, people are naturally drawn to light and opportunities for communal gathering. All individuals are invited to Lightwaves Salford to experience the enjoyment of light art.
