Long Stratton Town Council has stated it was left “deeply saddened” after four of its Tommy statues were subjected to vandalism. The council indicated that the bayonets of the statues were “cut off” at some point between November 23 and November 26. The estimated expense for replacing these silhouettes, which had been put in place for Remembrance Day, is £700. Norfolk Police has requested that anyone with relevant information contact their department. The statues had been situated at various points across Long Stratton, including the memorial garden on Swan Lane, the village hall, the Congregational Church, and The Plain. Tommy statues were originally designed for the Royal British Legion Industries charity and have been erected by councils throughout the UK.
