According to Sussex Police, four 12-year-old girls sustained “life-changing” burns within the restroom of a fast food establishment in Brighton. The police further stated that the girls were transported to a hospital on Thursday evening, where their condition is currently described as “serious but stable.” Authorities indicated they are investigating the cause of the occurrence, which took place at approximately 20:30 GMT on October 31 at the Wendy’s located on Western Road. Law enforcement officials clarified that they are not seeking any individuals in relation to the event but are requesting additional information from the public. A representative for the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed: “CCTV footage has been reviewed as part of the investigation and we can confirm the cause was accidental, and that fireworks were not involved.” Western Road experienced a temporary closure on Thursday night to facilitate access for emergency vehicles to the restaurant, but it has since been reopened. A spokesperson for Wendy’s issued a statement, saying: “Our thoughts are with those recovering from this incident in our Brighton restaurant. “The safety of our customers and employees is our highest priority.”
