Kenyon Kirkpatrick’s family relied on food banks during his upbringing due to difficulties with living expenses. Upon learning of an advent calendar appeal initiated by Bracknell’s food bank, the initiative “hit home,” prompting him to offer assistance. The 21-year-old shop worker stated that the food bank was “there when my family couldn’t make ends meet” during his early teenage years. He has contributed over 100 advent calendars, expressing that he “felt like it was only right” to reciprocate “now I am in a position where I can.” Bracknell Foodbank launched an appeal at the end of October, aiming to collect 400 advent calendars for distribution to families requiring support in the Berkshire town. Mr. Kirkpatrick commented, “The moment I heard about it I thought I need to get involved with this.” He further reflected, “As a child you don’t really know what’s going on until you grow up and start to take a step back and look at things differently.” He concluded, “Now I am a bit more – I guess you could say – mature I can look at the bigger picture and think these lot helped me it’s time for me to do my part and help back.” Initially, he intended to contribute 100 items towards the food bank’s goal, but the final donation amounted to 108, “because they were only sold in boxes of 36.” “The shop workers looked at me a bit weird when I asked for a trolley for them,” he recounted. The food bank, operated by Kerith Community Church, expressed profound gratitude for the substantial donation, extending thanks to all individuals who had contributed advent calendars at the Lexicon in Bracknell. Donations of advent calendars for the Bracknell Foodbank are accepted at the shopping centre until 17 November. The designated giving box is situated in Princess Square.
