A former police constable has appeared in court, facing accusations of disseminating information about arrests within a private WhatsApp group. Charlotte Nelson, aged 25, is additionally alleged to have utilized her mobile phone to record body-worn camera footage pertaining to an incident that occurred in Suffolk. The former constable with Suffolk Police, who has since resigned from her position, presented herself before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. Ms. Nelson, residing at Cedar Drive, Worlingham, is scheduled to formally respond to multiple charges at Ipswich Crown Court in January. According to court documents, Ms. Nelson also stands accused of accessing internal police systems “without a legitimate policing purpose to do so”. The alleged misconduct is reported to have occurred during her tenure as a police officer, spanning from January 2022 to October 2023. Ms. Nelson appeared in court facing three specific charges. District Judge Christopher Williams set her subsequent court appearance for January 16.
