Sally Keeble, who previously served as the Labour Member of Parliament for Northampton North from 1997 to 2010, has declared her intention to run in the forthcoming local elections. She plans to seek a position as a Labour councillor on the West Northamptonshire Council (WNC), representing the Dallington, Spencer, and Kings Heath areas. She conveyed this announcement via Facebook, stating she was “delighted to be selected”. Following her loss of the parliamentary seat in 2010, Ms. Keeble made three subsequent unsuccessful attempts to be elected. She chose not to contest the elections last year, citing a desire to allow a new generation to participate. The former MP cited three motivations for her re-entry into politics, among them “the appalling state of council services” and the prospect of a new Labour government offering a “once in a generation chance to deliver for people in West Northants”. Ms. Keeble further explained that her third reason was “the amazing kindness of local people” who had encouraged her “not to give up fighting for people”. Confirmation of other candidates is still pending. The WNC unitary and parish council elections are scheduled to take place on 1 May 2025.
