A former employee of a hotel expressed profound disappointment, stating he was “gutted,” following the establishment’s closure less than three weeks prior to Christmas. The Brandon Hall Hotel and Spa, situated near Coventry, ceased operations on 9 December. According to staff, this occurred after the business entered administration. Tony Johnson, who served as a fitness instructor at the hotel’s health club for eight years, characterized the closure as a significant detriment to the locality and voiced his hope for its revival. The BBC has sought comments regarding the closure from both the current owners and the administrators. In an interview with BBC CWR, Mr Johnson conveyed his immense disappointment at the fact that dozens of his colleagues became unemployed shortly before Christmas. He noted that while some former employees have secured positions in warehouse work, others are “living on the good faith of their family and friends.” He further stated, “Hopefully, someone will come in and buy this hotel because, as far as I’m concerned, it’s fantastic and a bit of a goldmine if someone wants to invest in it.” Employees of the hotel reported that administrators arrived around lunchtime on 9 December, subsequently instructing all guests and personnel to vacate the premises by the conclusion of the business day. Since then, concrete barriers have been erected on both access roads to the property, and the location is under surveillance by private security. A printed notice, affixed to the main entrance, verified the closure on 9 December and the directive for staff and guests to depart the premises by the end of that day. The notice conveyed, “We apologise for any inconvenience and please be kind to staff as it has nothing to do with any of them.” For further updates, follow BBC Coventry & Warwickshire on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
