A footballer, previously associated with St Mirren and St Johnstone, has entered a plea of not guilty concerning two counts of assaulting a woman at a chip shop establishment. Shaun Rooney, aged 28, is accused of attacking Sophia Bruce at a Blue Lagoon venue located in Glasgow city centre on September 19. According to court documents, the defender—who has also played for clubs including Inverness Caley Thistle and Queen of the South—allegedly twisted Ms Bruce’s arm and kicked her body, causing her injury. Furthermore, it is alleged that Rooney, who resides in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, repeatedly pushed her and grabbed her body. Rooney is also facing a distinct accusation of engaging in threatening or abusive behavior on the identical date and at the same location. This charge specifies that he “shouted, swore, acted in an aggressive manner and uttered derogatory remarks.” The alleged offense is further stated to have been aggravated by prejudice connected to sexual orientation. Appearing in the dock at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Rooney denied the accusations. A trial date has been scheduled for April of the upcoming year. Prosecutor Ross Gunn requested a specific bail condition prohibiting Rooney from entering the chip shop on Queen Street, a request that was approved. Rooney departed from St Mirren in October by “mutual consent,” having been suspended by the club subsequent to the assault charge.
