A former nursery employee from East Sussex has been incarcerated after admitting guilt to sexually assaulting young children. Andrew Evans, 38, who was employed at a nursery in Crowborough for under six months, faced charges including two counts of penetration of a girl under 13, one count of assault by touching of a girl under 13, and one count of assault by penetration of a boy under 13. Evans, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to all charges. On Wednesday at Hove Crown Court, he received a sentence of 14 years and four months in prison, along with an additional four years and eight months to be served under an extended licence. Detective Constable Rebecca Wilde commented that Evans had “in the most appalling ways” betrayed the trust of his young victims, their families, and the nursery that employed him. Sussex Police indicated that the force had initially received a report from the family of a three-year-old boy, who alleged he had been sexually assaulted by “Andy” at the nursery. Four months later, a three-year-old girl independently brought forward allegations of sexual assault against Evans, according to police.
